Exciting News!

Hi everyone,

You may have seen the article on the news recently about a Quebec zoo that is closing. This is an incredible coincidence because we have recently applied for and been granted a game farm license for our property on the other side of the Homathko R. The original plan was to raise buffalo and possibly elk. The buffalo are for meat but also the calves are used in practicing for cutting competitions (a horse event).

Last week we contacted the zoo in Quebec to find out what the disposition of the animals would be and the requirements for someone to adopt them. After many emails back and forth, yesterday we finally heard that they are willling to ship two elephants to us. One is a 12 year old female, Pearl and the other is a 2 year old female, Dira. They aren't related. This fulfills one of Roma's lifelong dreams of owning an elephant! (She has been bugging me for years to get an elephant.)

So now we have to improve our fencing and build a barn. This will all have to be inspected before the elephants can be shipped. Then we have to figure out how they will get here. We don't know how much the transport costs will be but we know it will be expensive. (Does anyone want to contribute to this.)

We haven't told any of the local ranchers yet although they are aware that we have been granted a game farm license. I am sure it will create quite a furor.

As soon as we get some photos we'll post them here.
