Organic vs Conventional
In recent years there has been an increasing demand for organically grown fruit and veggies - and rightly so because really, who wants to ingest pesticides every day?
A friend of mine, Vicki Burtt (organized the grad banquet with me), was part of a team of people who researched the costs of bringing organic and conventional food to grocery stores in Edmonton. They found that the environmental costs of bringing some organic food to the stores was higher than the costs of bringing the conventional foods to the stores.
Here are two links to information on the study. The first one is a short blurb on the Science Daily web page and the second one is the radio interview that Vicki did on CBC. Both are worth checking out.

Interesting info on those two websites Brenda. I too think the way to buy produce is...first local organic, next local non-organic, organic from province, non-organic from province, organic from a distance and then non-organic from a distance. Does this make sense?
