Stephen up close and personal with Cindy Crawford

Below are a series of pictures I took yesterday of Stephen and his co-workers hard at work again. They were catching all the sturgeon in the tank at Vancouver Island University so that they could weigh and measure each one. The biggest female (named Cindy Crawford), weighed in at 86 kilos and measured 2.3 metres. They wanted to get a sample of eggs from her to find out if she was almost ready to spawn, bottom picture.

Catching Cindy in the sling....

trying to keep her in the sling.....

weighing Cindy.....

collecting a sample of eggs, also known as caviar.

In the above photo, you can see a fairly large tube at the front of the fish. This is pumping water with anestetic through her gills to keep her quiet.
