It's a chilly day in the neighborhood!

Since Sunday it's been unusually cold here in Edmonton (or more affectionately known by Dad as Deadmonton). It's been -35 C for the past three days, with a wind chill of -46 C! Sunday and Monday it was a blizzard, and now the roads are very icy. The snow plows have been out plowing away, but they can't remove all the snow. What they leave behind gets compacted down and ends up being rougher than the Tatlaoyoko Lake road on a bike with no shocks!

Bryce works shifs in a camp north of Bonnyville (four hours northeast of Deadmonton) and went back to work on Monday only to have to come back today because the deep freeze (-46 C up there without wind chill) is wreaking havoc on the gas plant that he's working on building. Instrumentation was freezing and the plant had to be shut down. Since the plant generates the power for the camp they have no way of heating the trailers until the plant is up and running again. None of the heavy equipment could be started and the tires on the RT cranes went flat and the cranes looked like they were going to tip over! Work will apparently resume on Friday, but it's not supposed to be warming up any time soon, so who knows what will happen, especially if the pipes freeze.

The wind has turned our back yard into one giant snow drift. Cache is not keen on going outside, even to pee - he's been going in the snow on the deck! He might run around for about 60 seconds, but then he comes scooting back to the door flicking his paws around while he's jumping for joy at being outside and freezing his toes at the same time. I'm looking foward to when it warms up so he can run around outside and get rid of his pent up energy!

We've had it really cold too! 1 4 at night. I wouldn't trade it for your weather though.

We have had it pretty bad here too. At night the temperature dips to almost 16 and during the day it only gets up to about 27!!

Suck it up! You're a Chilcotin girl! You should be running around barefoot outside and rolling in the snow!

Mum

Well, I am happy to say that today the temperature started out at -20 C, and is now only +0 C! It's supposed to get cold again later this week, but not as cold as it was a week ago.

Bryce is back in camp, working away in -40 C weather. They got the camp unfrozen and working again. He sits in his crane all day in a heated cab, so he gets it pretty easy comparatively speaking. His brother, Brandon, is an iron worker on the same site and he has to work outside all day. Glad I don't have to do that!

PS Cache is ecstatic that I'm playing outside with him again. Last night there was no getting around a game of 'Retrieve the Frozen Tennis Ball.' He was scooting around me and between my legs when I got home - he couldn't contain his energy and joy any more! So I bundled up and tossed the ball for him until he lost it in one of the snow drifts. Guess he'll find it in the spring. Good thing we have a large supply of tennis balls!
