Passing Storm

Passing Storm
Originally uploaded by MontanaRaven.

I shot this when Tim and I were in Saskatchewan at the end of July ... it was just a little south of North Battleford... we were on our way to the annual Peace Encampment (which is usually held near Helena) this time on the Sweetgrass Nation Reserve past North Battleford.

I haven't been around much to write on our family blog, but I am around now and I'll have to go back and read the HUGE archives -- probably won't have time to comment much, but I'll read them. I'm glad you all are still posting to our blog. I've been (sortof) keeping up with posting photos to my photoblog if anyone is interested in seeing some of what I've been up to lately (I have it set so I can automatically post just a photo in about 2 seconds... )

Marybeth, your time at Tofino looks like it was relaxing and good time just being with the boys and the ocean. Those kind of times with families are SO important - they will remember every trip to the ocean (or other fun things you do with them) when they're old -- or just middle aged, eh? I remember when Shaun and I biked out to Tofino for a long weekend, another time I drove out there with another college beau, Chris -- we spent 4 or 5 days on the west coast of the island just exploring around, sleeping on the sand and making driftwood sculptures for the next hikers to enjoy. I have good memories of those trips.

Welcome back to the blog, Maureen!! I have certainly missed your posts here, and your comments on others. I have been monitoring your blog and photoblog for signs of your return, and was happy to see activity there, too. How are your plans shaping up for the "Girls Go" weekend?

Yes, family vacations like our recent trip to Tofino are definitely memory-making. In fact, memories of those family trips make up the vast majority of my personal childhood highlight film.

Since last summer when we were in London, Nicholas has been keeping a visual journal, and these will also help him to remember the experience later. On this particular trip, there were more slugs around then they had probably ever seen, and both boys got into "studying" them, like scientists, building slug habitats, naming them, drawing them, etc...hours of entertainment from a very slow-moving creature!

thanks, marybeth and peter, for commenting. I'm curious, Peter -- when you click on the photo, does it take you to a much larger version? I hope you can see the large size -- it's so cool that way and the small size doesn't do the photo justice.

mb: my plans are shaping up slowly (typical for me) ... I'm driving up, still don't know if I'm going to drive to Vancouver via Seattle or via Kelowna. It depends on lots of stuff, which will become more apparent as the day draws closer. If I do come via Seattle, do you want a visitor for a day and a night at your house? eh?

That's so cool Nicholas is keeping a journal. Way to get him started at an early age. We'll have to do some blog posts about journaling, both written and visual. I would like to see some pages from Nicholas' journal on our blog. How about it, Nicholas? If you share a few pages from YOUR journal, I'll share a few from mine .... :-D

Maureen, the photo takes me to your flckr page and the photo is a bit bigger but not by much. It should just open another window with only the photo in its full size, I think.

Thanks for trying that out and letting me know how it looks on your computer, Peter. The reason I asked is that when I am signed into my flickr account as well as our blog (since I'm the blog admin) I have all sorts of privileges (for lack of a better word) that make it so what I see is different from what other people see. I wanted someone else -- who doesn't have a flickr account -- to tell me how it looks to them. So now I know.

You wrote, It should just open another window with only the photo in its full size, I think.

You are partially correct -- if you use the upload-from-your-computer method of posting photos to our blog, that's how it works. I just made a new blog post explaining the difference between the two alternate ways to post photos to our blog, hopefully it makes sense.
