Alpine Touring

Yesterday, Nicholas and Julian went alpine touring on Hollyburn Mountain. This involves putting "skins" on the bottom of your downhill skis to allow you to go uphill (without sliding back), and climbing up to a high point. A touring binding is different from a downhill binding, allowing you to pivot your heel in order to climb uphill. At the top, you take off the skins and swoosh down through the trees back to the beginning. From their high point, they had a 360 degree view of: the City of Vancouver to the south, the downhill (in-bounds) ski area and Vancouver Island to the west, the Lions to the north, and Mount Seymour to the east.

This is Nicholas' second time touring, and he really loved it. Oliver is very keen to get out there too, but needs the right gear, not to mention a little more endurance! Maybe next year...

Way to go Nicholas! That looks like a lot of work but I'm sure you enjoyed the challenge. Good job! Beautiful scenery and nice photos.

How does everyone like the new blog background? I think it looks refreshing, just what we need for this spring..... thanks Maureen for changing it.

I agree with Kathy. I LOVE the background colour. Looks great with the first photos posted on it. Spring (thank goodness) is here for sure. Nice choice Maureen. What's next?
