A Day At The Office

On Friday we had to push 40 cows and their calves off NCC's Lincoln Creek Ranch (LCR). We spied them the day before grazing on the hillside above the Home Meadow which is across the road from our place. There are some fence issues with three contiguous properties (including NCC's) so the cows, who should be out on range, made their way in to some nice grazing on LCR.

Invaders on the hill

It took us about 4 hours in total to get the job done, but it was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. Having another rider and a stock dog with us would have been helpful - little white frou-frou's are more decorative than useful - but at least Pahokee stayed out of the way of all those stomping feet.

What are you doing here?

Starin' at the south end of north bound cattle

Unfortunately the herd came back for a second helping at the buffet yesterday but after a call to the rancher who owns the herd, he and his family pushed the cows down the valley and up on to the north end of Potato Mountain where they were supposed to be all along - and hopefully will stay.
